Combustion and Burner Management System Training
Combustion systems present significant operational and safety risks. For this reason, many jurisdictions require facility owners and operators to ensure that personnel working with this equipment are properly trained in the associated hazards, safeguards, and operating requirements.

Course Purpose and Audience
This course is designed for process, instrumentation and controls, maintenance, and operations personnel. It outlines the general requirements for the safe operation of combustion equipment and provides practical context for understanding burner management system requirements.
Regulatory and Standards Context
Across North American requirements—including OSHA 29 CFR 1910.119, NFPA provisions, and CSA requirements—the underlying themes are consistent: owners and operators are responsible for managing combustion-system risks and maintaining appropriate safeguards.
Course Approach and Customization
The course combines modern combustion-system theory with practical guidance on risk mitigation, including basic combustion engineering and the functional safety approach. While safety and automation platforms are discussed, core sections are designed to be logic-platform and equipment-type agnostic.
Where required, course sections can be customized for the plant’s specific equipment, fuel types, and automation safety platform. The content is suitable for a wide range of combustion equipment, including cement kilns, air heaters, incinerators, thermal oxidizers, enclosed flares, and similar systems.
